Matt Sesow

Sesow is an American artist born out of Nebraska who creates very primitivism painting with imagery reflecting emotions such as sadness and trauma. His paintings include very free and loose painting styles which really draws my attention, for example “Shock and Awe “a painting done on chipboard with an image of a man holding his hands in front of his face in shock. The way the figure is painted I think captures shock perfectly. The background is very unusual with its colours and patterns, vertical lines of yellow and red which makes the face stand out so much more. Matt also uses very specific sized rings for the eyes and nostrils which works very well in primitivism paintings I feel. The unnatural way the fingers and feet are painted also make him very different to other artist I’ve looked at, simple nails and squared off limbs.

Introduction

Two Men, Acrylic on Pallet

Welcome, my names Harris Scott I’m an artist in my second year of foundation fine art practice. This blog will be recording my progress and research throughout the year. I like to collage, paint, draw and mixed media. This year though I’ve been more on the path of making paintings on found objects. I paint faces in a primitivism style, long noses with wide spacing between the eyes and mouths like razor blades. I like to experiment with paints and rollers for the backgrounds.
